The Manaslu Trek is a classic tea house journey that encircles Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain. This remote adventure follows off-the-beaten trails and ascends to an impressive altitude of 5,106m (16,751ft) at Larkya La Pass, one of the longest passes in the Himalayas.
The 12-day Manaslu Circuit Trek is an inspiring journey around Mount Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest peak at 8,163 meters. Following newly developed trails, this trek reveals an untouched and less-traveled region of the Himalayas—perfect for experienced trekkers seeking high-altitude adventure, pristine nature, and rich cultural encounters away from the crowds.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola, the starting point of the trail. From here, the route gradually ascends along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through traditional villages that reflect the simplicity and beauty of rural Nepali life. The early part of the trek takes you through lush subtropical forests, terraced farmlands, and communities influenced by Hindu and local cultures.
As you climb higher, the landscape and atmosphere shift dramatically. The upper valleys open into the culturally vibrant world of Tibetan Buddhism, with villages like Ghap, Namrung, and Lho showcasing ancient monasteries, intricately carved mani walls, and colorful prayer flags swaying in the mountain breeze. These timeless settlements offer a deep sense of tranquility and cultural richness, adding profound meaning to your Himalayan experience.
Acclimatization stops in villages such as Samagaon and Samdo offer well-needed rest days and a chance to explore the region’s rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes—from lush lowland valleys to high alpine meadows. The trek’s most dramatic elevation shift takes place as you approach the challenging Larkya La Pass at 5,160 meters. To safely cross the pass, trekkers begin the ascent early in the morning from Dharmasala, avoiding the strong winds that typically rise later in the day.
Though demanding, the Larkya La segment is one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. From the top, you are greeted with sweeping views of glaciers, rugged river gorges, and the striking beauty of the high Himalayan terrain. Throughout the route, iconic natural features—such as the Budhi Gandaki River gorge and the region’s scattered glaciers—highlight the sheer power and grandeur of nature.
As you descend, the trail leads into the Annapurna Conservation Area, where the landscape shifts once again, offering a refreshing contrast to the high-altitude environment. The trek concludes at Dharapani, from where you begin your journey back to Kathmandu.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is an ideal choice for trekkers seeking solitude, adventure, and authentic Himalayan culture. With its blend of dramatic landscapes, cultural richness, and physical challenge, it stands as one of Nepal’s most rewarding and unforgettable trekking experiences.
We kindly request that our valued clients arrive in Kathmandu at least two weekdays (official working days) before the trek departure date. This is important because we need your original passport (photocopies are not accepted) along with your Nepal visa to process the special trekking permits required for the Manaslu region.
This package includes travel by public bus, however, for added comfort, you may choose to upgrade to a private jeep for an additional cost, as the road can be quite rough.
